Products You´ll be amazed how thoroughly AntiVir® protects you In order to guarantee high standards of reliability and convenience, the AntiVir software also contains other components beside the main programs of the various operating system versions. These provide useful functions and auxiliary services, and are put together to produce a made-to-measure AntiVir package for your individual operating system. The precise combinations of components can be found in the tables on the following pages. Functions and characteristics of AntiVir®

AntiVir® and protection against unknown viruses
We are now working on further useful functions and practical features for your benefit, and are open to all your ideas and suggestions. Supposing a virus occurs and no-one notices it. As long as you have the right AntiVir version for your operating system, there’s no need to worry, for AntiVir provides effective protection for stand-alone computers, peer-to-peer networks or individual workstations within networks. An operating system with a graphics interface may no longer work after a virus infection of the boot or master record for example. For this reason, the workstation versions of AntiVir always contain an additional version of AntiVir for DOS. You can bypass the operating systems installed on the hard disk by starting your computer with the aid of the bootable AntiVir CD-ROM and scanning it with AntiVir for DOS. AntiVir for DOS is made up of three components: the command-line scanner, the scanning and repair program AntiVir and the device driver QCDRV. To protect your e-mails and attachments, each AntiVir program package also comes with our workstation versions of AntiVir for Mail. This means that you can use AntiVir for Mail with different presettings to those of the main program, for example. Even senders of an infected attachment can be sent an instant warning. You are responsible for countless PCs. However, even you only have one pair of eyes. AntiVir is a comprehensive, flexible anti-virus program for professional system administrators: You can greatly reduce the risk of infection on the workstations within an intranet by countering the risk of viruses immediately on the server. You can also retain control of the network: for example, on detection of a virus, the user concerned can be logged out or the infected workstation disabled. Also, the user’s login password can be changed, so that the user can no longer log into this server without the intervention of the system administrator. A workstation can also be denied access to infected files on the server. The reliability of AntiVir is also available for servers running under Novell NetWare. AntiVir for Novell NetWare runs as directly on a file server as an NLM (NetWare Loadable Module), which means that it cannot be manipulated by DOS viruses. The NLM can be adapted to your needs via the server console. AntiVir for Windows NT server also offers a wide range of configuration possibilities. After all, professional system administrators need an efficient real-time scanner. If a virus is detected during an attempt to copy to or from a server, the infected file can be repaired, deleted, overwritten, disabled or moved to a quarantine directory. The role of file server, e-mail gateway server, etc. is increasingly assumed by Linux computers. This means that they also transport and store data (e.g. documents from Office packages and e-mail attachments) which are not directly connected to Linux. This is an ideal environment for file viruses, macro viruses and other nasties, which are free to do their evil deeds on a Windows client, for example, whenever infected files are loaded or executed from it. For this reason, you should use AntiVir for Linux on a Linux server: after all, prevention is better than a nasty surprise. AntiVir for Linux can also be used as an e-mail scanner with the aid of a shell script. The solutions for MimeSweeper by Content Technologies and WatchDog by Group GmbH are based on AntiVir SAVAPI. This DLL has the same detection capacity as the AntiVir command line scanner, but with a performance enhancement of up to 3000% (!) - the optimal solution for busy email systems! Question: Supposing you have Internet access – how do you control who sends you what by e-mail? Answer: By using AntiVir for Mail! These programs offer 32-bit systems automatic checks of incoming and outgoing e-mails and attachments under MS Exchange Workstation, MS Outlook, MS Messaging and Eudora. It is also possible to check specific mailboxes and folders – provided you have the appropriate rights. And all this can take place in the background, using all the standard scan and repair modes of AntiVir. With AntiVir for Exchange server, infected e-mails and attachments cannot even enter a network in the first place. For a mail server under MS Exchange, you need the comprehensive range of configuration possibilities which AntiVir for Exchange server offers. If a mail server is run under Linux, we have a solution for virus-free mailing: in conjunction with a shell script, AntiVir for Linux can also be used as an e-mail scanner.
SAVAPI as component…
Such products often activate a command-line scanner in order to detect viruses. This entails a number of system-related problems and limitations which can be avoided by using a virus scanner DLL such as SAVAPI. Advantage number one: high processing speed A command-line scanner has to be reloaded from the physical data medium and reinitialised for each individual file to be scanned. It then scans this individual file and is closed again before the next file is scanned. By contrast, SAVAPI is only initialised once when the application is started and remains activated. This allows it to react instantly to file scanning commands. This takes approx. 50-100 milliseconds, while a conventional solution with a command-line scanner takes several seconds. Advantage number two: low storage requirements particularly in multitasking systems Each time a command-line scanner is started and initialised, several MB of main memory are required. In multitasking systems, several hundred files can be edited simultaneously, which can increase the required memory space to several hundred megabytes for the command-line scanner alone. By contrast, SAVAPI only holds one multi-threading copy of its program code and its virus definitions in the memory, so that it hardly needs any extra main memory for each scanned file. This allows an enormous saving on resources and thus offers great advantages in terms of performance. Are you looking for a made-to-measure virus protection package but have so far failed to find the right product? Or are you in search of a virus protection program to integrate in your firewall? Whatever your specific virus protection needs, the Secure AntiVirus Application Programming Interface (SAVAPI) has the answer. SAVAPI is essentially the basic engine, i.e. the scan and repair component of AntiVir, which can be easily integrated into your applications. SAVAPI is currently incorporated in, and can be licensed for, the following program packages: The Secure AntiVirus Application Programming Interface (or SAVAPI for short) offers both developers and end users a wide range of functions for detecting and removing viruses. SAVAPI was developed in order to be able to incorporate professional virus protection into other applications. Typical examples of this are:
